Voters have the right to expect that those running for office be truthful, credible and demonstrate integrity in their platforms and affiliations. Apparently this concept has been lost in the statements of Mayor Jakeway and CHOICE spokesperson Marcia McKay. It seems they would much rather provide the electorate with half-truths.
Mayor Jakeway is running independent of CHOICE however that is not the same as being independent of CHOICE or closely tied to them. When your signs back each other, there is a dependency. When you state that electors must elect the CHOICE slate to get the 15% tax decrease you promised, there is a dependency. When you place ads in the Newspaper with all your names on the banner, there's a dependency. Marcia McKay herself admits that "we are collaborating on the cost of ads, signage and handouts."
No relationship? Do you really believe the electorate is that gullible?
If you can't rely on them to tell the whole truth now, how can you expect the truth if they were to get elected!

The CHOICE group has been meeting with Mayor Jakeway all summer, and we agree with each other on the major issues and the best way to address those issues. Yes, we endorse his platform. Yes, we are working together. Yes, we have shared costs. Yes, we want to be on City Council with Walter as Mayor. However, we are not a political party - we are all running as individuals with the right to disagree on issues. By putting our election signs up together, I would have thought it was obvious.

Thank you for your clarification. Yes, technically what you say is true by the strictest definition of an electoral slate. The problem I have with your slate and Mayor Jakeway is that these are "half-truths" and I believe deliberate attempts to mislead the electorate. That's what is obvious.
I do love Mayor Jakeway's idea of democracy though. If he can't get support for his ideas at Council, he'll get a "slate" of people who think like him elected and his problems will be solved. It is my hope and prediction that Mayor Jakeway will be trumped out of office November 15th and that those riding his coattails will see that their CHOICE isn't the correct one for Campbell River.
