Mayor Jakeway and his CHOICE slate of candidates are proposing an Elder Grant for the seniors in Campbell River that will help pay their property taxes. It sure sounds like a great promise and for "only $202,000 a year". What’s that promise really going to cost the city taxpayers?
Here is a conservative cost estimate of that promise.
Seniors in Campbell River ** source Stats Canada 2011 census data - 80 to 84 years old 685 - 85 + years old 585 Assume that ½ are married and that only half are home owners eligible for the Elder Grant - 80 to 84 years old 685/2 = 343/2 = 171 - 85 + years old 585/2 = 293/2 = 146
Estimated cost of the Elder Grant - 80 to 84 years old 171 x $1,045 = $178,956 * maximum grant matched - 85 + years old 146 x $2,090 = $305,663 * double the maximum grant Total = $484,619
So Mayor Jakeway and CHOICE, tell us again how you are going to cut taxes and keep service levels while making these kinds of promises?
Common sense; I think just more nonsense from a bad Mayor and a bad CHOICE!
